Pre-press
Before a map appears as a final product, all processes before printing are controlled and adjusted in a digital workflow. Thus the data is modified and converted into high-resolution data formats for print and online media using different RIP processes.
Data conversion and data processing of output data for print (CtP) or online
imposition (atlases)
- creation of imposition template, according to requirement
- page preparation
- preparation of the whole print forms
PDF
- PDF, PDF-X, or by agreement
- CMYK process scale and/or special colours
- colour information controlled, colour models and colour spaces (ISO / ICC)
1-bit TIFF Group4
- 1 record per colour separation, unlimited number
- CMYK process scale and/or special colours
- periodic screening from 35 P/cm to 90 P/cm
- non-periodic screening: FM or AM-stochastic
- geometric resolution by agreement
- compensation curves taken into account, depending on reference print
Vector data
- various exchange formats by agreement
Raster data
- various data formats (e.g. TIFF, GIF)
- geometric resolutions (e.g. 254 dpi, 1016 dpi)
- radiometric resolutions (e.g. 8-bit, 24-bit RGB, 32-bit CMYK)
- colour information controlled, colour models and colour spaces (ISO / ICC)
Data transfer
- depending on volume of data, by agreement
- by email
- FTP-Server, access data by email
- CD, DVD
- contact
Colour management
Colour management
- adherence and regulated adjustment of colour information through the overall work flow
Repeatability
- Periodic updating of cartographic products
- ensures reproducibility
Quality assurance
- adherence to recognised norms and standards (ISO)
- objective examination, quality certificate with suitable measuring techniques (spectrophotometer, verification software)
- addition of self-defined tolerances and agreements (special colours, several print passes)
- systematic controls with soft proofs, digital proofs on different paper or film
Proofing
Production of digital proofs – contract proofs – raster proofs
System EFI Colourproof XF / Epson Stylus Pro 9800 with colour management
According to record and requirements, the approximation is:
- content accurateh
- colour accurate, according to print condition: relative or absolute colorimetric
- colour structure accurate: unlimited number of separations
- screen accurate (with 1-bit Tiff): periodic screening up to 60 P/cm as well as non-periodic screening visually discernable
